thanks fella. just need a label to sign it so more people can hear it.

I dnt get what makes this so special…

I think the good labels must agree with you

Nooo that wasnt aimed at you mate it was aimed at these new kids breaking through lol

I remember when James Zabela came on to the Scene I was like WTF **** is this dude all about. Now he’s a seasoned pro

No i don’t get more gigs out of it, i get less gigs now than when before I was a producer. Infact before I was a producer i was djing every week and it was enough to pay my bills.

Truth is, producing is more important to me, i love making music and i love being creative. The DJ scene is too fickle, clicky and pretencious. Everyone is out for themselves and there’s too much two facedness and backstabbing. I’m not into that, i just want to be making music and doing what I love, i’d love to get to a level like Chris Lake where i’m DJing because of my releases, but i really cant be arsed to *** kiss promoters just for a gig. I’d rather be playing because the punters have come to see me play because they like my productions, not playing because i’ve sweet talked a promoter or promised i’d promote the night / sell tickets / etc etc.

I’m not into ego trips.

Not bad for this time in the morning

It’s the coffee and the fact that the dogs have had me awake for an hour.

A lot of this business is marketing. If you don’t understand what it REALLLLLLLY is then you need to go buy a book and learn it. Marketing is just creating hype and pushing a product out. The product could be a track, an artist, a soda pop, a beer. Doesn’t matter. Your still trying to sell something.

Before you start questioning why others get stuff and you don’t, you have to ask yourself if you have all your ducks in a row. If the answer is NO, to any of the regularly asked questions, then you need to fix it and get it together. It’s that simple.

Also on a side note… Just to bring this up, because I think it does need to be said. I understand that all of us usually have a particular favorite style of music we want to be known for, but open your mind & ears to other styles as well. That’s how you grow as an artist.

Half of this business is about just being a cool person. As cheesy as that sounds. If you are sensitive and don’t have a good sense of humor, this industry is not for you. Most of the time, deals & gigs & tracks get done through friends in the industry. So making new friends with people is pretty much the most important thing you can do. It’s the best way to get your name out there and to make new connections. Just make friends. The thing is, that if your a snobbish asshole, or an annoying little kid, or a loud obnoxious drunk, or a crack head… People are gunna notice that. I dunno about the rest of you guys, but I know how to read people. I can see attitude & people’s mentality easily through their words & actions. Other big artists, DJs, producers, A&R guys are not stupid. If your attitude shows signs of being not to their liking… Don’t expect them to just walk you in and buy you a beer. In fact, expect them to just ignore you.

You hear that jjdejong0 ? :stuck_out_tongue:

I totally agree…except that I see marketing simply

as a way of communicating with people…letting them know

that you have cool **** and that they will get a lot of value from

buying, listening and attending whatever you may do.

jonsloan said that he’s got 1 fan that would buy all his stuff…

imagine that you find another 1000 people like that,

and that they spent £25 a year on your stuff…that’s £25k,

you may not be a superstar but it’d be enough to live on.

spot on about marketing being a communications channel. old-school marketing tactics used to be all about talking AT people. now with social media around, the new form of marketing is all about starting conversations WITH people.
