Online classes, samples, song construction

Does Sonic Academy offer music production classes online besides tutorials? I am currently living in Germany with the U.S. Army and cannot attend in classroom sessions. I have went over a couple of the tutorials and I am still curious on actual song construction. How many bars  to run loops, bring in/out loops, when I should bring in/out bass, synth, leads. I have been creating songs here and there but have always got stuck, my track either sounds really flat or has no build up or drop and sounds very dull. Can someone please help. I also have started to use Abelton and have no idea on how to use the program so any advise would help. I was also wondering on if sonic academy offers royalty free sample packs to download and do they break down genres.

Hey dude! As far as I know, they don’t offer any online type of stuff, like a collegiate online thing. I personally attend college and do the SA thing, but where SA teaches me the actual music making, I get the Advanced Technicals training from college.

Have you watched all the tutorials? Because there are tons and tons of info in there about song construction. Generally speaking, you should create either 8 or 16 bar loops with larger transitions coming at the end of every 16 bars.

Here is what you should do. Go through all of the tutorial videos. TWICE!

Then, take 5 of your favorite songs. Drag them into your DAW. Drag out 8 bar loops. Listen to it over and over and over and over and over and over. You will then pick up what the producer is doing and how he transitions. What he throws in next… What he does to lead in… etc!

NOW GO! DO IT! I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOU!
