Organizing your HDD

Hi Peeps, br
Hope ya night is going great! br
About to rebuild my PC and just wanted to get some feedback on how people br
organize their samples/sample CDS/ field recordings/bounces etc. br
I’m hopeless at organizing my samples. br
I’ve got my some of my drums and bass organized but the way i’m working now isn’t making any sense to me… br
Any hints?br
br
Thanks in advance.br

I just keep them in packs and use Abletons search functions to find them.br
br
The folders I have are just: Sample packsbr
MIDIs

hey thanks for the reply. br
yeah the Ableton search is pretty good once you got it set up.br
br
Do you not spend any time making some snares and kicks etc for use later?br
or do you just build everything in the project when you are working on the track?br
br
thanksbr

Typically no, the only thing I do is often get the kick into key. I do that by either finding one that fits (by ear, start out with a basic 909 and then change it later on in the mix when I have an idea on what Im making), by transposing a kick into key (by ear and using a spectral analyser) or by using bazzism for the low end of the kick.br

I never really store anything as I think most packs alrady have the sounds that I’m after. br
There seems to be a lot of people that love layering, but the way I see it most packs will already have samples that have been layered and have a sound that I like. But then again whatever gets you the sound you want is the way to do it. There’s no real right or wrong way, just whatever you’re happiest with.br
