Personal workflow

hi guys

im finding it hard to create music from scratch and was just wondering how all you guys get started. all the help you could possibly get is in all the tutorials on here but im struggling to get inspiration. e.g

:- what kickstarts you off

  • do you listen to tunes first for ideas
  • do you know what you wanna make already and then construct it
  • do you just start putting random things together and going with the flow
  • do you just play around on your keyboard to create a melody and build the foundations around that

please help me with some ideas you guys use to get going

    thanks

Personally ill start with drums. Kicks. Then play with claps snares and hats to get a funky sorta rhythm. Then try a bassline that sorta fits. Then some synth or samples. Chuck in a break or somethin. Thats my current rut that im a bit stuck in. I should be doing more with modulation etc but im learning slowly. Sometimes if you program a midi part, paste the midi data on the wrong instrument track- it can turn out better than what your doing on purpose!

Most of my tunes I’ve started by trying to re-create a song I like. Then they just evolve into something different.

i mostly play around with a riff or something like that and ableton plugs

like chord and note scale. play on my keyboard

or i start with kick /percussion and bass and

build a track from that.

No particular one way or other. Also depends if it’s a remix or an original.

(Step.1) Find a Kick Drum then a Snare and mix them together keeping it simple
(Step.2) make a lead
(Step.3) make a baseline to flow with the lead
(Step.4) Make PADS flow on the bass and Lead
(Step.5) Structure an intro

Something like that works for me but if IM not in the mood to make a track I just write drum patterns and save them for later use

the best way of being productive i the studio was when i already knew what i was going to do . trying to focus on premade samples help but never been as effective as having and idea how your song will sound i think .

im glad you said this coz i was leaning toward this way before i posted the topic…

thanks for all the useful info guys!!!
