Weirdly the Serato version is even more expensive (some £200) no mention of coming with software either (where as the Traktor one implies it comes with a version).
Seems a crazy imbalance if that turns out to be true.

I don’t think they will. I think if you are serious DJ then CDJ2000 are the best solution. These things are really a consumer product, yes they pay big name DJ to use them for press releases and some DJ will take them to bars and clubs but there are some real downside to playing these out.
If clubs start installing these then I will hold my hand up and admit that I was wrong.
Eventually, clubs will only provide DJs with a mixer and a P.A. system (in about 2-5 years from now). A DJ (then being known as digital jockeys) will be required to bring their own MIDI controllers and laptops. It is the future, if you can’t see it, then you are destined to evolve (getting into the digital) or perish.
I have Traktor Scratch, and some midi controllers (although they are not as nice as these) and they are great for at home but I wouldn’t take then to play out. Time code CD is ok. Although I have seen Traktor crash in a club, it was a friend of mine DJing in Space in Ibiza, and it wasn’t good.

happened to me once, was doing the opening set at a club in edinburgh before Richard Durand and the screen kept on jumping, I couldnt even start my set, email NI after and turned out I do delete some kind of corrupted files, another time it crashed in the middle of a set, made a lound buzzing noise, had to reset the ***** laptop!! that was a nightmare! mind u this was before traktor pro, I was using traktor 3, luckly traktor pro hasnt crashed on me… yet!
Long gone are the days my my trusty old 1210’s how I miss them
once the software is crash proof. cdjs will eventually be phased out.
I don’t see CDs being phased out for atleast another 7-10 years. pioneer and too many companies make too much money from producing them. they will continue to pay big bucks to DJs to ensure that they continue to play on CDs. eventually though, just like vinyl… it will happen. It took 10 years for them to phase out vinyl… expect the same for CDs.

The only way to make it crash proof is to not let people install thier own software. You could have it is a black box with the software on flash disk, then a usb port for an external HDD with your tunes on and you could have a CD tray at the front, just in case, and it could look like this:
