Plugin Required

Hi Guys.

I’m sorry if this post doesnt make much sense but i’m hoping some of you get the general idea. It would also help greatly if anybody is a weekly listener of A State Of Trance with Armin Van Buuren.

I Listen each week and also collect the tracks played on the radio show. I started making similar sets on Ableton and have cracked the warping and what not. ASOT itself is made on ableton.

If you listen carefully to ASOT, each track is so crisp clear etc… A Lot of the perfect mixing is a result of excellent EQ but it seems that the mix is being run through a ‘mystery’ plugin which seems to soften the sound but at the same time incorporate a beat limiter and make it nice and punchy. I also noticed that the sound is almost tinny at times but sometimes when theres a break down, the higer range changes sound to an almost water droplet type sound - example of which is here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MAwXNUKfJU  jump to 2:14mins and its that same high gentle sound… in a way, the EQ on asot seems off balance but at the same time, its a great sound, its the asot sound.

Heres another example of the sound i’m after - the first minute of this tune - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYigr3pxF5Q

I know this isnt really making sense but its buggin the life out of me, i just need to know what plugin this is.

I have ‘Waves mercury bundle’ installed and cant find anything on there which produces this sound.

Its really really hard to explain - maybe look at this off the ASOT forum - http://forum.arminvanbuuren.com/index.php?showtopic=16494

any help is much appreciated.

There is ( Mixe in Key) Plug in that makes you mix your tracks smothly . I know that he uses in his Dj sets alot( most big trance Djs) . now transitioning the track with the EQ to cut and crossover the high and lows Frequencies are something that takes Practice .

I bet you that they are throwing a compressor on it that is colouring the sound. Alot of emulations of vintage gear will do that. Kinda like an opto compressor or something.

From what you’re describing it sounds like nothing more than a compressor. Possibly even EQ added.

Did I hear an echo?

Of course Howie, i reply before reading your post and the mention of ‘compressor’ automatically means an echo.

Hi Guys,

I’ll be back!
