Ok here’s my dilemma, I’ve got a whole load of loops on my hard drive collected over the years and I’d like to be able to audition them in Logic timestretched to the current track I’m producing. This works great with Apple loops (although the slow delay of switching between is a bit time consuming) but when I’ve tried to batch convert all my loops in the past, it hasn’t worked too well. Using the Apple loops utility I’ve tried processing a whole folder, setting the BPM, etc. but after processing non of them seem to play as an Apple loop should so I kinda gave up on that idea.
What I’m looking for is the same kind of functionality that is in Live automatically, when you can page down with you keyboard arrow auditioning your loops in real time, just like I used to do back in the day with Sonic Foundry Acid. Apart from using Ableton rewired (JUST to audition loops) is there another way? A plugin or method that could help me do it?
It tends to slow me down no end when I’m producing, giving me a bit of A.D.D!

It’s not possible in Logic at the moment unless you convert all your samples to Apple Loops. Batch processing doesn’t really work, you have to do them one at a time to get the best results.
They did add Flex Time to Logic Pro 9 which when activated will snap any loop to your current project tempo without destructively timestretching the original loop but it only works once the loop is in the arrangement page and not while auditioning loops from the browser.
I’ve always had the same issue but I’ve actually been using premade loops less and less and if I do use one I usually Flex Time it and then convert it to an instrument (kind of works like a Rex file).
There was a free Sampler / Loop player in Computer Music there 2 or 3 issues ago.
Havent loaded it up myself yet, but when I find the disk (;)) I’ll be giving it a go.
You can edit a bit & drag & drop from the player onto the arrange page… so seems pretty cool if it works!
Thats one thing that they should have done - Upgraded the EXS24 to something like that.
At the moment, I’m making an Apple Loop (I’m nearly sure that they’re the loops I’m bringing in) - Which is SO easy, then doing the convert to Sampler Instrument to play like a rex file in the EXS24.
Let you know when I sort it - Acgtually, just remembered, its called UVI Workstation & You can DL from their w/site

The only thing I hate about Apple Loops is that you can’t easily edit them. I guess with the new bounce in place feature it makes it easier just convert to a non Apple Loop file and edit away but still I find it annoying.
The UVI sampler looks inetresting I’ll have to look into it.
Loaded it up this afternoon - seems pretty cool.
You can drag Midi’s to the arrange & they appear like Rex.
You can also drag Audio (just make sure to have stretch selected in UVI for it to some out & the project tempo… It doesnt follow tempo changes if you decide to up or down it after a while, but its no probs dragging it again if you have to.)
Its nice for auditioning loops & you can flick through them as you play your track. No major hassle then switching over & taking the hits that you want.
Theres a load of Mod options & FX within, and the filters are pretty dirty sounding.
Pretty sweet… think I’ll be using it a lot.
Edit: Forgot, some samples I had in it sounding a little clicky when they were split up, as they do… so I’m not sure exactly what editing functions are in it, but sure, time will tell & theres ways around that.
