Problems with Automation in Ableton

Hi

I’ve just started to sequence my first track in Ableton, which has all been going ok so far. However im traying to apply filter sweeps and volume increases / decreases as shown in lesson 8 of the making music with Ableton lessons and it doesnt seem to be working.

On the video they select a drop down menu on the track name box, and then select auto filter. When i try this the only options in this menu are either “mixer”, “none” or any ableton instrument such as Impulse or any plugin used such as Camel Crusher.

Hope you can help with this.

Thanks,

Rob

do you mean you cant select a parameter to automate ?

you have 2 drop down menus one for device and one for parameter are you selecting the right track to automate?

Hi

Thanks for the response.

I cant apply a parameter to automate, if that makes sense? Sorry im quite new to this and not up to speed with all the jargon. Basically on the video in the first box he selects auto filter and then in the second box he selects frequency. When i try and do this it doesnt let me because the first box only has the options for Master, Impulse and any plugins used to create that clip in session view. If i select impulse it then has loads if different options for filters etc but then it repeats them about 8 times. For example 1. filter frequency 2. filter frequency 3. filter frequency … etc. I’ve tried selecting various ones and then adding hinges to the areas where i want to apply the effect, then I play the track again but the effects dont work / cant be heard.

Hope that makes sense,

Rob

… Oh yeah. I forgot to mention im using Live 8 on Windows XP, not sure if that has anything to do with it?!?

Hi mate, make sure you’ve got auto filter put into that channel, any plug in that is placed into that channel will definitely appear in the device drop down list.

Otherwise could you please provide a screenprint so I can physically see your issue?

Ahhh, do i need to add an autofilter to the clip in session view? That may be where im going wrong.

Cheers Roben
