Q: how to make techno sirens and horns in ableton/vsti?

I was trying to kinda recreate those famous industrial techno sirens and horns that you can hear in the tracks like

Alexkid - Jeri Call Alexkid & Rodriguez Jr - Jeri Call (Edit) - NRK Music - YouTube

or

paul ritch - split the line (dubfire megamix) - YouTube

or reset robot - bangdrum http://www46.zippyshare.com/v/25197916/file.html -this is only a siren sample from the track

If someone can help me with the ideas it would be great!

Thank you guys:)!

I usually google for free samples of sirens then bung them in sampler and then bitcrush, granulate and do all kinds off effects - also those horns sound like an arabic horn off some type

I know its vague but like all good techno the best answer is find a similar sound and experiment

Too right…

Heres a tip though - get some samples of african / ethnic horns. And stuff like Clarinets, bassoons, tubas, trumpets, all that sh!t.

There can be some pretty cool sustained notes in there & little shrills / rolls.

Sounds mad when mangled with a bit of bitcrush / reverb like Slender said.

Or goto africa and pretend you are an aid worker then you would be given them

Make sure you put something on that horn if you do… dont want to play The Last Post.

Thanks guys for the tips, i will def. try it. Although you are just talking about working with the samples, which is great, but is there any way to actually create those kind of sirens and horns in any kind of vsti by yourself? i think it gives many more opportunities to experiment with the midi clips instead of just using effects on samples. I mean, for example, you can get a sample of white noise(riser etc) and work with it (use audio effects), but there is an actual video tutorial where they explain how to create these sounds from zero. Anyways, thanks again for your answers :).

p.s I might just go to Africa to get that stuff:)))

You might want to go find some samples after this! LOL

Loads of articles there on SOS… But just to give you an idea of the ballpark.

Sirens are easy to make I have done it in sylenth and v-station . I prefer a square osc and modulate the pitch using a lfo if you mess around you can do a bunch of different sirens like american cops to europeans sirens .
