Question about connection

Hello dear people at Sonic Academy!

I’ve a question that might be obvious, but I’m unsure. So maybe someone here could help me understand!

I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen and using headphones. I noticed that on one of my headphones the 3.5 mm jack contains 3 bands and the other headphone has 2 bands. I Googled it and found out that the 3rd band is related mic?

Is it safe to use both of these in the audio interface? Or are there any drawbacks?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Hi there

So yes, you can find some 3.5 mm jacks with 2 “Rings” connectors ( TRRS jacks ) instead of the usual 1 “Ring” connector ( TRS jacks ).

TRRS jacks are usually found on headphones with a built in microphone, now since the Headphone socket on your Focusrite Scarlett is an OUTPUT, you don’t want to use this TRRS jack

Hello!

Thank you very much for a detailed explanation! Good to know! Then I will use the headphones with the TRS jack!
