Question: Stripping stereo from a track

I want to remove the stereo from a track and leave the mono only. Is this possible? I know I can just convert it to mono, but then all the stereo is mono as well. I’ve tried searching on the Internet. I thought I knew how to do this long ago, but maybe I dreamt it.

What DAW are you using?

If it’s Ableton then just simply put ‘Utility’ in to whatever channel you want to mono. Remember to put the width down to 0%.

Or you can press the arrow next to ‘utility’ and drag and drop in ‘mono’.

I have Ableton, Sonar, Sound Forge and Audition.

Utility doesn’t strip the stereo (side data) from the mono; it just changes all information into mon, similar to the way Waves S1 Imager works.

What does “press the arrow next to utlity and drag and drop in mono” mean?
