RAM with Ableton

I am using ableton live with Windows 7, 32 bit. I have 4gb of RAM.

Ableton is crashing when it gets past 1.5gb RAM. If I close down all but essential functions I can push it to about 1.6gb RAM.

Are there any tweeks I can make in Ableton or Windows to allocate more RAM to ableton ?

I seem to be losing about 1gb of RAM potential.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

What plugins are you using?

My main pluggins are

Sylenth,Alchamey,Sub-bbombass,Pianissimo,Fabfilter Pro Q,EAReverb and not forgetting our ANA !

Other than those I stick mostly to Ableton’s own plug ins.

Is this happening in empty projects or when you have a lot of plugins?

No, this is happening with  almost complete projects. A blank Ableton project only uses 170 mb of RAM.

Im an bit annoyed as I bought a new computer recently because of problems with processing, the processing is fine and never goes over 50% on the Ableton CPU load meter.

I had read advice that by flattening some tracks it may help, but that didnt, a busy six minute wav file seems to take up more RAM than Abletons own effects on the unflattened track. I did an exercise of checking various applications with windows task manager.

The new version of Alchemy seems to use more RAM than before. One instance of Alchemy uses 107 mb.

I have to be a lot more careful how I use effects now.

try freezing the track, but it’s cumbersome and doesn’t work if you have any sidechain going, try going to crucial.com and see if you can upgrade your ram

try using ableton’ own plugin for eq’s etc.
