Really simple Julio Bashmore lead I can't get!

There’s a really simple lead sound Bashmore uses in a few of his tracks. It’s so simple sounding I’m almost embarrassed to ask how it’s done!

It comes in at about 2:05 in this track. At parts in the tune it also sees to have an LFO on the sound as well.

I’m guessing anything like ANA or sylenth could make this sound. There’s a few sounds on the M1 which are similar called fuzzy lead but none of them sound electronic enough.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Alan

Actually sylenth or ANA would have a pretty hard time recreating that although you can kinda get close.

Its using Frequency Modulation (FM)

so operator or FM8 would be a good start.

If you want to try in ANA give this a go.

Set up a Gen Env assigned to pitch all Like this:

Then just play around with rate and amount… its not exactly the same but you can get some similar metallic sounds although they wont track up the keyboard like a true FM synth Would.

Cheers Phil, I’ll have a look.

Any tips on how to make this sound using FM?

In FM it should be just a saw with either a saw or sine as the modulator.

might have a bit of pitch envelope on the modulator.

also add a standard filter env.

For me FM is very hit and miss… i really cant visualize how to make a particular sound.

I tend to just play about.

Cheers Phil.

I’ve been using FM8 for a few days now and quite like it. I’m just tweaking the presets admittedly but there’s lots of nice lead sounds for deep house/tech house in there. Maybe more than I’ve found on subtractive synths tbh. Although subtractive seems to be the place to go for stabs and basslines.
