Remix Advice

TGIF everybody,br

Anyways, been working on this remix of Lazy Richs tune for the beatport remix competition, and was just looking for some criticism as well as advice on different techniques to maybe spruce it up a little bit… As well, i was wondering if I should keep the tempo boost in the middle, or maybe get rid of that and do a more filtered chord kind of breakdown, thoughts are appreciatedbr

Yeah the Tempo change isnt working.br
br
the main riff sounds too loud and could be a bit softer sounding.br
br
Also sounds quite dry… maybe a more reverb.br
br
Drums aren’t really punching through the mix… kick is probably a bit light on the bottom end too.br
br
The Bass (at least i think its bass) sounds like it is an octave too high.br
br
What speakers are you using?br

Yeah there’s very little bass in this one!

I just bought a new laptop, and for some reason my sound card doesn’t work with it, I have some krk’s but because of the sound card problem, I’ve been using some klipsch headphones, so that’s probably why it’s lacking alot of the bass… I’ll go back and tweak everything you mentioned, and add some more atmosphere etc… how about the chords? good? Need some changes?

I think teh chords are spot on… think the synth sound needs more attack… sounds too sort of full… try bringing down the Amp ENV sustain to about halfway then adjust the decay until you get some nice punch.

So I went back and made plenty of adjustments, including jacking up the bass… What do you think now?br

Sounds smoother and bigger… i think your bass might be mixed too loud and it should not be playing when the riff is going without the drums… less impact when it kicks in
