With most remixes I’d say use the bits you like to make a track you love, sometimes and artist will stipulate they want you to use this or that. This comp seems pretty open,I mean they’ve given you midi files instead of instrumental wav’s so you have the opportunity to give it any flavour you like, at the end of the dayif it’s good enough it’ll win.
The only real rule is don’t use any samples that aren’t cleared orrecognisable.
Thanks for responds mate!
Reading the info on the comp i also assumed the creative freedom, was just checking

Seems strange to remix something that hasn’t even been mixed in the first place, doesn’t it? :ermm:
How far along is the original?
Actually, I’m not surprised… there are quite a few times where the label will ask for a remix without releasing the original version.
That’s just the way it goes. You can use this as an opportunity to not get too influenced by the original, and come up with something all original.
something i threw together today
Darren Bailie & Oscar Del La Fuente - Promise Me (4am) remix by Kris Roberts
Anyone else having difficulty warping the vocals?
Great mixes turning up!
Jeast (04/12/2010)
Well, being such a newb and under no illusions that I might win this comp…and not really having the time to give it a proper go anyway, I thought I’d share my attempt at a remix. It’s just a loop at this stage, and probably won’t evolve into anything more than that. Feel free to comment…

My fave so far. Great reverse vocals. Repeated listening makes me appreciate that a lot is happening with the vocals. Nice work.
Is there any chance of getting “dry vocals”…???

Ah! Thanks very much! I developed it slightly to this version, but don’t think I’ll be taking it any further…to be honest, I wouldn’t really now how at this point, I’m still learning.

For those interested in what the original sounds like check this out: - YouTube
I think the title of the song should be something more along the lines of Lazard - “4 O’Clock In The Morning” (Darren Bailie & Oscar Del La Fuente Promise Me remix) not
Darren Bailie & Oscar Del La Fuente - “Promise Me” (4am) as the lyrics are not original, but what do I know.

So, it’s not even their own original track? Ugh, this contest just got very limp-wristed. They didn’t even come up with a different melody or bassline!. Very disappointing.
If there were some kind of hand-washing emoticon I’d be using it right now. Think I’ll stick with FOEM.
EDIT: Maybe I’ll just remix the original:
I knew I heard of that vocal phrase somewhere! I agree, it’s pretty lame and to add…
“Submissions become the property of Darren Bailie & Oscar Del La Fuente.
No Third party samples, if released you will be asked to indemnify ourselves to that effect. Downloaded parts remain copyrighted and you are strictly forbidden to use in any other medium”.
Right…, it’s not even their original track! Scratch me off on this one. LAME!
im guessing the winner gets theirs released too yh?
