Remix Competition: Darren Bailie & Oscar Del La Fuente - Promise Me (4am)

Hey guys,

Wasn’t sure where to post this but I guess this could use a thread anyway. Mods, feel free to move it where it belongs if this is the wrong spot.

Anyway, I was wondering if it were possible to actually hear the original mix so we don’t end up making a track that sounds too similar to the original. It’s not posted on Darren’s Soundcloud page, but if we could get a sample of it up to listen to, that would be great.

Thanks!

i was looking for the same thing, also was wondering what key its in, havent had a chance to import the midi to look at the notes yet

i was wonder is same question… where we can hear the original or there is no original rlsed yet?

Well, being such a newb and under no illusions that I might win this comp…and not really having the time to give it a proper go anyway, I thought I’d share my attempt at a remix. It’s just a loop at this stage, and probably won’t evolve into anything more than that. Feel free to comment…

40clock in the fkin morning (in another mind) by Joe Easy

anyone know what tempo the vocal was recorded at ?

128

Yep 128bpm… key of Eb. The vocals don’t line up so it needs a li’l bit of comping. Also, I found that it’s not standard 44kHz sample rate. It’s 32kHz so it might not import correctly to your sequencer. Had to convert it to 44.1kHz to open up in Logic.

hi guys,

the original isn’t even finished yet.

i do have one remix , i will double check if we are allowed to provide this to you for you to listen to!

Well, no one commented on my previous reply, so I doubt any of you actually care…but I’m completely new to this and would appreciate some feedback, so here’s an update…I’m not even sure if this would be considered a remix, perhaps someone could give me some pointers? This is far from complete btw…

Hello peeps,

i’m also quite new to production and this forum and have some questions about this remix comp. It will be my first entry to a competition so perhaps some questions are a bit dumb, i’d just would like to get things clear for myself.

My questions:

  1. Are we obligated to use all midi files from the package?
  2. Can we chop up the wav file to our likings and re-arrange the words to make different sentences?
  3. I also wanted to hear the original but i understand from this thread it isn’t released yet, nevertheless will we get to hear the original before the closing date?
  4. I assume all styles are welcome since it is not stated that it’s not. Am i assuming correctly?

I have loads more questions but i think these are more or less the important ones for me in this stage…

    Thank for any responds!

    Regards…

    Wouter

yeah i like yours too, diferent to what im used to though the only thing id say about it is to make your kick abit stronger because i couldnt tell if it was under a high pass filter or not and i was waiting for it to really drop but it didnt… you get what im saying? maybe not though because its not exactly my genre so i wouldnt know all that much about it

where and how can i get involved? i wanna have a pop at a remix

Seems strange to remix something that hasn’t even been mixed in the first place, doesn’t it? :ermm:

How far along is the original?

With most remixes I’d say use the bits you like to make a track you love, sometimes and artist will stipulate they want you to use this or that.  This comp seems pretty open, I mean they’ve given you midi files instead of instrumental wav’s so you have the opportunity to give it any flavour you like, at the end of the day if it’s good enough it’ll win.

The only real rule is don’t use any samples that aren’t cleared or recognisable.
