What a joke! The recent Mark Knight contest. There were some sick tracks in their drop box and they chose a ‘good’ track by a semi-established producer with links to toolroom. Now my track wasn’t great but some really were, just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I’m gonna have to boycott Toolroom tracks and avoid all Remix comps. Anyone else got any feelings on remix comps?

even though i recently posted up some links for competitions i don’t go in for them, its the same reason many on here don’t do these comps.
Remix comps are good for practice and building your sample collection
i agree the whole system can be easily manipulated leaving tracks that are good unheard and unvoted on.
if i really like a song ill take a stab at it, and when i finish it is quality work ill submit it, knowing that my chances are slim but hey, lifes not always fair
haha you sound like me mate hahaha.
Jon will tell you, I’m probably the most anti ‘remix competion’ person on here, they’re a farce and a waste of time IMO.
But like Jon and Tommy have said, they’re great for building up samples and if the parts are good and you enjoy taking a stab at it then why not, it’s all just practice if nothing else.
Not so long ago i actually used a part to make an original track of my own so it was all good haha.
Obviously i couldn’t release it but it gave me great ideas and if anyone did want to sign it i’d just make a new part to replace the part that i nicked from the remix competiton no problem.
I entered a primeloops remix contest on Trackitdown where the deadline was June 1st. The organizer posted once June 11th saying all tracks were downloaded to be listened to by the judges and once that was done he would send us the account info so we could listen to other entries. No communication since then. Almost two months later. We don’t know who won or what other peoples entries sound like. Pretty lame indeed.
Yeah I entered one from Trackitdown/Cr2 records last year, nothing ever happened with that either, no winners nothing.
I’m not anti-comps, though I agree with everything said above. Sometimes they help me produce though as I have a ‘spec’ and a deadline, which with my own productions I don’t, so they are more likely to end up abandoned.
the beatport remix contest is all about money . you first got to buy the sample package and then you have to promote yourself . beatport and the label.
Its all about taking advantage of new producers and also promoting the Originall Artist.

I agree. When I found out about the Mark Knight contest I was excited, then I found out about the charge for samples and was like nawww. I refuse to pay to do a remix contest. Just taking advantage is right. That being said, any remix contest is a sure learning experience.

From now on, purely originals.
