Remixes?

just wondering, if i heard a song on the radio and decided i wanted to make a remix of it, can i seperate the stems from the drums etc on my own? like by Eqing etc…

because i like this old tune and think it could make a good summer prog house tune… someone should make a remix of this with a good beat…

Sadly you can’t separate it. The best you can do is search for an instrumental of the song. If you get the instrumental you can invert the phase of the instrumental and play it over the actual song to get the vocals on their own. But that’s the best you can do. The only other thing you can do is contact whichever label put the track out and see if they’ll let you work with the stems or alternatively search the internet to see if the stems have been put up or leaked… Not that I’m advising you to do that.

To get the samples from the label would probably cost you quite a bit. A cheaper way would be to pay a vocalist and re record them. Also if you did this no copy write issue’s. But its not an option for a lot of us who don’t have access to a studio/don’t know a good vocalist. But if you really wanna re mix the track its probably the best way go.

Fair point on the label thing. Although sometimes you get lucky, I’ve e-mailed a few and they’ve passed bits and pieces out to me for free. Depends who it is really, how old the tune is…etc It’s always worth a try I think. Although in this case you’re right, you wouldn’t have a blind shot in hell getting all saints stems for free lol.

As for vocalists, I’m in Belfast and I put up an add a while ago looking for a vocalist and got like 30 replies within a week - all of whom were happy to do it for free. Although sadly, that doesn’t help with the cost of recording. But still, if that’s the response in Belfast which is a pretty small city I imagine it would be even easier in mainland uk.
