Hello there, I have been subscribed to Sonic Academy for a few months but have never actually used the forum boards before and I was hoping that some people with an interest in electronic music would be able to help me.
I am currently doing a project on remixing for my BTEC in music technology and I would be very grateful if you could take the time to answer a few questions for me, so I can get different peoples viewpoints on the subject.
In your opinion, when does a remix become the remixing artists IP?
Do you respect remixers as much as contemporary artists who write their own songs?
Do you think Remixers should be able to make money off of their creation/ If so do you think the remix needs to bring a certain amount of originality for them to sell it?
Do you have any examples of finding an artist you enjoy through a remix artist and do you think remixing has been more beneficial to the original artist’s or the remixer’s in the long run?
Also if anyone has any remix artists that they could recommend or any of your own remixs you could link to that would also be quite helpful.
Thank you for your time.
In your opinion, when does a remix become the remixing artists IP?
It generally doesn’t in terms of the song - the writer will always own it.
In some cases you may get a few points (%)

A lot of remixers write their own stuff as well.

Remixers can make a ton of money, top ones can get 20-30k per track for a A list artist.

Yeah i think the whole point of remixing is to cover genres that the artists original doesnt. Fades remix of Delerium - silence is a good example of remixer “making” the track.
Also if anyone has any remix artists that they could recommend or any of your own remixs you could link to that would also be quite helpful.
