Request for... Mac/ PC Optimization for DAW, DAW Tweaks Templates

Hello! br
I’m new to Sonic Academy. :-)br
br
I have a new iMac 5k fully loaded/ maxed out… My DAW’s are Logic Pro X and Ableton 9.br
Through my years I have a collection of many audio samples and plugins. br
I want to make sure my computers are optimized for EDM audio production. I have installed on my iMac 5k a 1TB SSD drive with 32GB ram. I also have connected 2- 2TB G-Technology Hard drives 3.0USB for storage and backups.br
I also have a PC thats a little old but is primarily used for internet etc,… etc, but with an older version of Ableton installed… br
br
The new iMac is solely dedicated to music production. I also have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 audio interface and an iPad Air 2 128GB that will be used as a controller and some synth iPad apps I’d like to use as well.br
br
How does one properly optimize their components to integrate properly? What are some tips and tricks one can do to optimize ones computers optimum performance?br
How and were should one store audio samples and projects?br
br
Also…br
A tutorial on setting up templets and basic pre-production housekeeping and setup.br
br
If Sonic Academy already has these types of tutorials… then I apologize for this post.br
Can one lead me to the videos please…br
br
Thanks in advance…:)br

Hi Pete,br
br
there is nothing special you need to do and comes down to personal preference. The only thing i can pick out of your list that needs attention is your sample / project storage preferences.br
br
If you store you samples on your external drives - generally speaking file access / seek times will be increased - but it will take the load off your internal drive to allow space for applications etc.br
br
Provided your external drives are SSD then you shouldn’t notice any problem.br
br
I personally have a few drives installed on my computer. br
br
The first and main drive stores all my applications.br
Then the seconds keeps all my projects and samples.br
br

I own an iMac 5K and trust me, you don’t need any tweaks to produce EDM.br
br
I got a SSD for OSX, Ableton and the plug-ins and all my samples are stored on a second fast HDD (not a SSD btw) and everything runs perfectly!br
br
(I am producing techno and house and the tracks are quite complex (lots of plug-ins / external hardware / …) which means I had some really high CPU usage on my old computer, now it never gets higher than 25% of CPU usage)br
br
That computer is a beast !
