For the last month or so I’ve been experimenting with resampling my basses for the purpose of thickening them. I’ve watched a ton of tutorials, including the sonic academy tech tips for a thick bass line but I’ve found these tutorials either incomplete or I’m missing something. I have been frequency splitting, eq ing and using autofilter to seperate the high, mid, and low freqs. I’ve been adding small amounts of reverb, saturation to the mid and hi freqs in small amounts using send and return tracks.br

What I keep ending up with are dryer, crappy versions of the original bass I’ve started with thru all the hours I’ve put in. What am I doing wrong, and does any1 have any tips on resampling basses to make them thicker or fatter?
I think perhaps rather than resample you should look at your original sound design. Splitting freqs and adding reverb and saturation etc etc sounds like an awful lot of work and not something I would do. Working on the filters, waveforms and modulation in the synth should be your first step. Get that fundamental right and everything else should fall into place. Layer sounds can help then bussing those and treating them with compression and effects ‘as one’ can help ‘bind’ the sound together. br
