take a look at this map… this is a world map from the 15th century… 1460’s… it shows the earth… the clouds around it, the atmosphere and space with the stars in it…
well how the f*** did they know in the 15th century(!!) that the earth had an atmosphere seperating it from space and the stars above…
btw the maps called Mappa Mundi in La Fleur des Histoires
Its probably to do with the ancient beliefs in Earth / Water / Air / Fire
The world was made of earth… then there was water… Air was above that.
Fire was above air. The craters & sh!t on the moon looked black from earth & so it was believed that it had been burned by fire at some point.
Checked the photo in google & the Pic shows the “Atmosphere” to be red… with little yellow flecks in it (flames?) so I’d say they still believed that in the 15th Cent.
The stuff that was known back in the day was incredible. How long would it have taken them to work out stuff like the longest day of the year & stuff like that. They’d years to work it out.
Religion had a part to play in it I’m sure. My primary school education is getting hazy now… but I know they locked a fair few astronomers up.
One of the big daddies was Copernicus… and I “think” he was one of the many who knew the earth was round. Galileo was locked up for heresy or was told he was going to be denied a place in heaven or something like that if he didn’t denounce the works of Copernicus. I “think” he was a hero’s of Galileo’s as well & don’t think he gave it up.
Spent many years in prison or house arrest. Didn’t suit religion for the truth to be out there vs. what was said in the bible. How little things change.
Astrology dates back 2 centuries before Christ, the Babylonians “invented” it i believe. I think the ancient population of our world were much more developed than we all think and are made to believe
