Rising synth sound

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows how to recreate this awesome rising synth sound. It’s a series of notes that gradually builds and builds - this seems to go on and on until you don’t think you can hear any higher, then it keeps growing.

I’ve heard it in Dubfire’s massive mix of Grindhouse and it’s also the main staple of Kris Menace’s “Scaler” track.

Any ideas on how to create this in Sylenth?

I’ve done a bit of research already and think it’s what is known as a Shepard Tone (Shepard tone - Wikipedia)

Here’s links to those songs if you don’t know what I mean.

Cheers!

i think its just with pitching up

scaler uses a synth preset,i forgot which synth but ill post it later when my memeroy comes back to me.check out this site audio software by oli larkin

ive used these on a couple of releases.

Theres an effect plugin called corkscrew that does this sort of thing, more in the line of what happens in Smith & Selway - Total departure though. That Kris menace tune does just sound like hes moving up the keyboard

Future Music did an interview with Kris Menace a couple months ago, you should see if you can find the video somewhere. I’m pretty sure he did use some sort of preset, but also just pitched up the MIDI notes and gradually faded in a MIDI line an octave lower (also rising) to keep the effect strong.

There’s also a softsynth out there (like a poster said) that works on this theory in a smoother tonal way. There’s some psycho-acoustic principle associated with it, but basically (if I remember correctly) it’s the same thing – one rising high note with a rising note an octave lower gradually fading in, and this cycle continues forever.

Have you tries this

the synth preset used on scaler is from the Virus TI Polar, not that it matters, there are more than enough reaktor ensembles, vst plugs, etc that can be used to create the same effect.
