hum … ok but what about the bass ?

Aight, I think this track is sick first off. But I live for minimal. OK. to answer your question:

Rolling Bass: isn’t rolling. Its a sub bass that has portamento applied to it. It’s a simple sine wave in a two note minimal pattern. The sequencing is set to make it sound like its rolling down when it “resets” the clip by layering the last note over the first note with portamento or glide applied. There’s also quite a bit of side chain compression giving it that pump sound that helps with the roll. If I had to guess, there’s also a very slight amount of reverb on the bass as well as I can slightly hear a tail.

Keep in mind that there’s two basslines going here. There’s also the sub bassline that lines up with the kick. Giving it even more pump. Im sure that there’s quite a bit of attack on the bass as well to allow the kick to come through without having to sidechain. Giving it a different feel.

Minimal is ALL ABOUT ATMOSPHERE. If you can’t build an atmosphere with the very few sounds you are using, then it sounds crap. FX FX FX!!! use them in the most unconventional ways you can. and apply them to everything!

Hope this helps.
