So, I’ve recently gotten into producing dubstep/dnb but my problem is that my kick doesn’t come through in the mix properly with all the sub bass that’s interfering. I understand the concept of frequencies, etc but what I don’t understand is HOW to “roll off” these individual drums (kick, snare, hats, etc) using an EQ. I use Ableton, so if anyone is familiar with this technique using EQ8 or some other plugin I would greatly appreciate it!
Rolling off is to low cut or High Cut and is the two signs either end of the EQ Filter type section, Low cut would be used to “Roll Off” the lower frequencies and High Cut would be Used to “Roll Off” The Highs.
i think i may have misread what you’ve said lol

How do I do wtf they’re talking about, essentially, with say, EQ8?
God, this is gonna drive me nuts lol.
on EQ 8 there are up to 8 “nodes” which you can apply a specific filter curve to mould the sound.
For a low cut (roll off lows) you want to select the first node (number one) and set it to a High pass filter shape…by selecting the node and then selecting the filter shape at the left of the possible choices (curve shapes at bottom of EQ8).
when cutting the highs (roll off highs) selected a new node (2 - 8) and select the shape at the far right of the possible choices…
you should now roughly have an upsidown U shaped curve overall and just need to adjust the frequency of the two nodes however you like.
If your problems splitting the actual drum sounds into different tracks so you can put different EQs on each look at the drums section of any how to sound like…if its a straight audio loop with kick snare hat you will have to look at slicing to midi clip…
