Sample usage

I hear so many tunes on beatport that use samples, really bold and blatant ones - sometimes even complete loops. Are the label legal departments all on an extended holiday or something?

most producers do use straight unedited samples. as long as it sounds good.

Think, though, that most samples that have been used in music available on beatport are cleared.

Heard a tune yesterday that had that hihat/percussion loop of Paperclip People “Throw” in it.

Don’t get hung up about sampling. It’s the foundations that dance music is built on

Oh, I thought this thread was about sample packs. Those piss me off way more. Suddenly people think it’s alright to just throw in 3 construction kits together, pitch shift them and release them on Beatport. Gahhh

A good reason to boycott sample packs then. I’ve always thought they were a cheat. Most of the time they are produced by old producers who need to money so you’re getting their cast offs for a price. No wonder tons of music out there is crap.

You can take just one perc from a sample loop and use it. So unless you never used a sample (one shot or otherwise) in your productions, you really have no room to talk! Just sayin.

No, because I’ll be the first one to admit that I use a healthy dose of drum hits from sample packs. But I still cut them up and rearrange them. What I’m talking about is literal copy-pasting of basslines. Like this song:

Stream Utku S. - Do You Like / Out Now on Cassette by Utku S. | Listen online for free on SoundCloud

Almost all of the drop samples are from the Vengeance Dirty Electro kit. And they’re just totally copy pasted, without even so much as a regard for key.

i mean. for drums… its a no-brainer. i’m not making my kicks and snare samples.

i’ll cut up my drums and filter & eq the **** out of them… so their mine… still samples tho.

taking a little bass sample from vengeance or loop masters… is not really a big deal.

IF the sample is only like a quarter bar long… or a half bar… no biggy. its just a lil 1.

I try not to use any vocal vengeance samples (people spot them a mile away)…

also if your gunna use a sample. do a little to it to make it yours and not just a straight copy.

its when you get those contruction kits like Flaxo was talkin about… and people are just taking the whole kit and dropping it into an audio track… not exactly original music there.

i’d say like 90% of the sounds I use are made from synths. the other 10% is samples.

all producers use samples… but wayy to many people trying to come up are just like copy & pasting loops and samples without changing ANYTHING and sending it to labels as if the A & R guys are not gunna notice.

Like the girls say its what you do with it that counts (for some of you what the boys say)

one shot samples are game. drum/music loops not game. using clip envelopes on loops to isolate individual sounds - game. percussion loops - game.

Getting upset about other people using loops - not game.

Not upset, just laughing at their inadequacy.

All samples are game, just as long as it sounds good in whatever project you put them in. As long as your track sounds good and works on the dancefloor myself and pretty much the entire population wont give 2 ****s where the samples came from.

The only people you might have to worry about is a small niche of amateur producers who sit around talking to each other on the internet or have nothing better to do and make vids on youtube about how such and such a person made a hit song using x samples from x sample packs and how they can do it in less than a minute…

The only problem is these people complain and say its easy blah blah but THEY themselves didnt do it but some other guy did and is reaping the rewards and focusing on his productions whilst this niche bitches about it for a few months/years…

Lol,

How in any way shape or form is a proffesional producer/dj, who uses samples inadiquate??

That has to be a contender for the dumbest post of the year award.

He’d trying to be funny Jan - which it is…

For LOLz of the year, theres a great contender in my Sig :stuck_out_tongue:

Look, don’t worry matey, it’s ok, I know a lot of what I say goes in one ear and out the other. My subtlety flies over you like a stealth bomber. Tell you what, i’ll rustle up a mammoth supersaw synth in Reaktor for you in the next few weeks, that will cheer you up. The Gigasaw will LIVE! and YOU will have it for your Trance epics.

I never use loops or samples unless its a drum kit or vocals . I have nothing against people using samples . 15 years playing the piano it would feel wrong using samples .

Instead of thinking subtle mabey think… Not funny?

Also ICN it shouldnt be lolz of the year its just carefull word smithing…

Also I dont think a cracked Reaktor can produce what I need…

Zoooooooooooooooom… damn stealth bombers flying about again…

Ah, I see. So this is a measure by which you can feel superior to other, possibly far more successful, producers.

Sounds a little tragic to me.
