Is there any scale out there that includes the C, C#, f#, G?
I’ve been going through my scale book and can’t seem to find any major or minor scale that includes those keys, however, i’ve keyed in these notes and they sound really nice and sinister played in accordance to each other.
Could it just be a case of ‘passing notes’? Or does it fall into another type of scale?
No one has an answer?
A quick look at my scales book shows b Flat Melodic Minor is
Bb C Db Eb F G A
Where Db is the same key as C# and Eb is the same as F#
Maybe???
I dont know, but if it isnt in your scale book, then I would stay away. Im sure there is a scale though that fits those notes, in say… CHINA!
We make western dance music. Stay within the scale and only use other notes for accents, dissonance when needed, and tension. Dont use it too often though.

It’s funny you should mention that because I was experimenting with B flat minor scale yesterday and felt that it also sounded nice.
But in my book it says the keys are C, C#, D#, F, F#, A, A# ?
You mentioned ‘melodic’ minor? Is that then a particular variation to B flat minor do you know?
Oh and Eb is the same as D# not F# lol

haha brilliant! Could try a Chinese electronic dance number
Anyways who says we can’t break the mould
dunno if this will help mate but when I’m trying to figure out what key I want my tune in I’ll listen to a few songs, find one the has the mood I’m loioking for and figure out which keys are being played, then I reffer to http://www.looknohands.com/chordhouse/piano/ to see what scale its in, then work out the chords, tonal centre etc from there.

Doh.
I am not going to try and explain melodic minor, because I do not understand it very well myself. But it is different on the way up the scale than it is on the way down.
Bb is:
Ascending it is Bb,C,C#,D#,F,G,A
Descending it is Bb,C,C#,D#,F,F#,G#
I’m not sure if I am helping or making things worse, I only got involved as a distraction from my VAT return.

I would stick with descending as thats a pure/natural minor mate

I’m with you on that one! Not sure I need to know scales with the noise I’m trying to make lol
Well this is just it, you begin to think that you’ve nailed it on the head, then you get something like the dialema i came across which throws all that out the window haha
A Half-whole diminished has C, Db (C#), Eb, e, f#, G, A, Bb, C
Have you checked out all the modes, Aeolian, Phrygian etc?
No idea if that will help, but I remember going over them in some course once.
