Should you put auto filter on your kick to make it more powerful so its fully pronounced well in your track?

other solutions?

Mate there are no shoulda or shouldn’t really, use your ears if it works it works.

why not EQ?

That’s what I was thinking.

No. Just pick a good kick. EDM is based around the kick drum. The only reason I would consider auto filtering it would be if I wanted the click from one kick and the low end from another kick drum. Other then that, no reason to put an autofilter on it. You can eq it a touch if you need a little more bottom end, but it goes back to what i was saying before, just pick a good sample to begin with.

Very True Howie the more you pick sounds that are just good without you having to do a single thing to them the better off you are. Also choose sounds that work well together, dont just play ure samples soloéd but try to hear them in a rough mix and see if they clash with other elements or if they work well along side your other parts.

correct, sir.

awesome !! you guys are great!!! :D:)

Auto filter would work ok to roll off to super low frequencies but a decent eq with a 6db option will work much better. a nice gentle roll off around 20-60 hz could lift the energy of the kick.

but as the lads have already said, picking the right kick in the first place is the best way to deal with his problem

old trick im sure most of the guys are aware of it here is to set a narrow Q and scan and cut somewhere between 80 & 500 hz… it will sound like the kick just punches that little bit more

Trick for logic users…  Using the low cut you can boost the Q giving some nice body to the kick

So cut the lows 40hz say then boost the Q = 808 baby
