Showcase CD

I’m going to this big event on Saturday in the midlands and will be using the opportunity to chinwag with a few major artists and industry bods.

Anyways cutting to the chase, I was thinking of putting together a showcase CD of my best / most recent works so I could give it out, first up… do you think this is a good idea?

Also I was thinking of writing small print on the bottom of CD sleeve playlist, you know that 'do not copy, reproduce, distribute, owner reserves all rights blah de blah ’ but can’t remember exactly how the script goes, I tried google & yahoo searching for it but can’t really find it.

I have to admit i’m a little ‘umm arrr’ about doing a showcase CD, but then at the same time it’s surely got to be a good thing if I can personally hand it to people?

What would you guys do?

Could you not just copy whats on a cd or dvd

remember people can copy cds no problem at all and will regardless of what u write on it. also handing out cd’s, there is no trl to prove u sent/gave it to them like there is with e-mail if someone decides to ripp u off.

so be careful who u give it to if full lenth versions. I personally would make contacts, take their email address etc and do it after the event and/or make it a sample promo cd, i.e. 4 min clips of ur work.

The copywrite text?

That’s a good idea! I’ll have a look, thanks

just put your name, contact info, and song titles on it.dont get caught up over thinking it,more than likely it will end up being tossed shortly after you hand it to them(unless you know someone or have a gimmick)

personally i would go get my self some business cards made up, nothing to flash and only get 20 or 30 made. looks more pro than writing down email addresses and you’re not giving away any work.

plus you get to talk to people face to face and really gauge if they are interested in hearing demos from you. no point hand out cd’s that are possibly going to be binned by half the people you hand them to.

Yeah makes sense, my friend suggested that too!

Cheers, I’ll do that! Thanks Jon.

Business cards are the way forward. I designed and printed them myself and carry about 15-20 around in my wallet with me. There always great to give out to people that you meet.

As for the CD, i think its a fantastic idea BUT what i would do is collect details from people and then tell them that you will send you CD onto them, that way your not wasting there time and there not wasting your time.

Well wouldn;t you just send them a lonk to your track or soundcloud account, rather than a CD - CDs sorta remind me when I was in bands many years ago

Just hoping I can get business cards printed up and delivered to me before Saturday!

lol you will be lucky my friend, believe me! Unless you know someone that is local but even then, you could have problems :frowning:

Best thing to do perhaps would be to design one and get your own reinforced card/photographic paper from your local supplier and DIY

giving a business card to someone give you the opportunity to ask for one in return, some won’t have one but to that you simply reply “not to worry maybe i’ll catch you next time” most people will “well actually let me just give you my” blah blah blah. it works trust me.

You haven’t got to be mate. Just go onto google.com search for a business card template or use an online version of a business card maker, download the image and then print it yourself
