is it better to side chain with other compressors then just using the compressors that are in Logic and Ableton?
I dont think so.
Use what you have. Its all cool.
the compressor in ableton is pretty good. dunno about logic. but i bet its prob good as well.
I like using Cytomic the GLue… but doing sidechains with it is a pain.
theyre fine you just gotta play around with it til it gets the sound your after
i used to think the one in cubase wouldnt get that “sidechained” sound but it does it you keep at it
Better to keep to your DAWs own compressor as it’s more than likely to use a lot less processing power, plus you’ll never notice any difference to be honest, they’re more than capable.
Yeah agree with the above - no point usng anything else for sidechaining - for other compression that is a differnt story all together in my book
thanks guys just what i was lookin for!

Use 3rd party compressors for just compressing, but you cant beat the ableton compressor for sidechaining in ableton
thanks for the preset link cid
I love side chaining. you guys listen to wolfgang gartner its full of it ! :D:D

yeah its just sidechaining so use what you have.
for the compression i would not use the ableton, thou it is ace, there are better compressors out there. And its depends what effect you want. I like the URS for adding warmth and vintage compressor settings. The TBK3 for adding punch and pop to drums, the LA 2A(sadly now just using a emulator) for bass.
Its not really a case of which method is better or worse, its a case of which method does what you want how you want and is appropriate to the way you work.

drawing a volume Envelope is as effective and sometimes better than using compressor IMO. because you have full control of the envelope.
