Sidechain cubase sx

ok please help, is the only way to side chain in cubase sx to use audio tracks and not midi? this is a real pain in the backside. surely there must be a way to sidechain using only midi tracks?

any help would be much appreciated as its doing my nut in

youtube mate

loads on how to sidechain in sx 3

if its sx 4 it should just be native

As Paul said really, i learn’t to sidechain in cubase from youtube tutorials, actually the quality of video is a bit crap on youtube, one of the tutorials gives you a download of the video which is much better.

If you get any trouble though, just ask and i’ll help you as it’s pretty straightforward.

cheers for the response guys, much appreciated. however im still confussed that link you sent me,i  had already seen but the sidechaining is being done with audio chanels and not midi chanels.?

if i try and do it with midi chanels then the option to send to a compressor isnt available, only when it is an audio chanel.

am i being dumb? actually maybe you shouldnt answer that

any help would be much appreciated.

its sx3

compression, delay, reverb eq etc are all audio effects. you can not use them to effect midi (midi is just purely a signal and has absolutley no sound or dynamics), but you can use them to affect the audio signal from which the midi is triggaring. thus, say ur using battery for kicks and u have the kick routed out of channel 1 on battery, you then need to insert an effect on the battery channel 1 not the midi channel.
