Hi guys,br
br
I’m in need for some monitors and a soundcard all reasonably priced below a total sum of €500.br
I’ve tested Genelecs 8010s with a NI 4DJ soundcard. But that one kept making some crackling noise when Ableton (on windows dell Latitude E6530 laptop 2.90GHz/8GB RAM/160GB free HD space) was running without asking too much CPU (below 40%).br
br
Besides that, read about the driver issues on the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB audio interface, but that one seems quite popular though. Any thoughts on that one?
I would avoid the NI sound cards at this time for music production, as they seem to have driver issues that NI has yet to solve which causes the crackling sounds even with almost no cpu load and with the samples set plenty high. NI seems to have made them with DJs in mind, and are quite poor at support for them, especially in DAWs. Their hardware support is their weakest area by a mile. Stick to a company that is known for their excellent interfaces and preamps, or at the very least, their hardware.br
br
Focusrite makes excellent cheap audio interfaces. I have a handful of different interfaces, and my Scarlett 6i6 gets the most use. It sounds great, it always works, and it’s cheap. The Presonus interfaces are also good.br
br
Most companies have minor issues with their USB audio interface drivers. The problem with the Focusrite Scarletts is that once you install the drivers/software, they get screwy if you move them to a different usb port. It isn’t an issue for me, as I do not swap USB ports on my devices ever. Also, some of the Scarletts have software only controls, which is a turn off. For instance, on my 6i6, there are no pad/lineout/instrument level switches on the device.
Thanks for the advice!br
That figures with the crackling noices :)br

Anybody else with some insights/thoughts/advice?
I haven’t listened to the Genelecs but I would worry about how much low end a 3 inch speaker can deliver. Take a look at the Adam F5 or F7 for £286 and £432 per pair:br

I have Adam A7 for production but bought a pair of F7 for use when DJing at home and I was suprised by just how good they are. The Adams have a distinctive sound that I really like but I can imagine some people don’t.br
br
I also like the Focusrite interfaces.br
Thanks mate! Will look into this.
I got a set of KRK VXT4s… sound good… decent amount of bass for their size. Would be great with a sub.
