Smashing Percussion Taming Transients

What is the best way to smash mid to high pitch sounding percussion taming transients in Live 9?br
br
br
Below is what I found out about this topic and more info would be very helpful for me to understand this topic better.br
br
br
1 - Taming claps snare transients for a cracking soundbr
br
After a lot of research about taming transients I found out that in the effects chain there isbr
br
EQ 8 - to roll of the mudbr
br
Limiter - to shave of a bit of the random attacking peaks (used after a small % of LFO, for a random sound in the simpler in drum rack) br
br
Compresser - to bring out the attackbr
br
Saturator - with a bit of drive, clip on soft shine. br
br
Why would the saturator be used at the end of the chain, plus what else is the saturator use for? (I looked all over the web, not a lot of useful info)br
br
And are there any dangers about transient peaks to be careful off?br
br
br
br
2 - Smashing mid to high pitch sounding Percussionbr
br
In the info I found on line a glue compresser was used to smash the sounds and I am wondering if a sausage fattener would do the same job?br
br
And are there other alternatives e.g. live 9 compresser overdrive?br

Slightly off grid the snare and clap earlier than the kick so the click, snap of snare comes in play just slightly before the kick. That helps.

For cutting transients there are a few methods i use: br
br
Fast attack fast release peak Compression br
SPL Transient designerbr
Sonox Transmodbr
Peak limiterbr
Attack on sample player.br
br
I tend to try and keep the transients there as they can tend to get lost at the mastering stage. or ill do a sort of small master on the drum buss which can strip some transients.br

Cool plugs and good tips, using the attack on the simpler to reduce the attack was one method I over looked. I managed to find some cool free plugs to use until I decied to purchase the plugs you mention. br
br
Bitter Sweet v3 made by FLUX for transientsbr
br
Fleischprodukt - Waves Shaperbr
br
Solid State Logic - Inter sampling meter called SSL X-ISM (very good free plug to put on channels to check volume levels in live 9. I use it a lot so that I don’t have to squint at the tiny meters in live)br
br
And I’m checking out the free Alliance plugs.br
br
br
Have you got any info/tips about smashing hats, rides, shakers, percussion loops, crashes etc etc? br
br
e.g. sending them to a channel to be processed with plugs on to sculpt and gel the sounds and make the sound thicker br
br
Plus I have been watching tuts about reverb, using a br
send with EQ, reverb EQ plus using a gate as well and working out the reverb time using the BPM of the trackbr
br
Can you explain any of these techniques used especially working out the reverb time. br
