Hi guys,
Would really appreciate your views on this deep house-track
Try not to mind the fact that the vocal isn’t mine and plucked off the internet, it only reflects the atmosphere i’m trying to reach. I might start looking for a vocalist if anyone thinks that the song itself would be worth the effort
Also, the outro might seem a bit long, but that’s because it’s the part where I’ve been trying out some lyrics and vocal stuff (but for everyone’s listening benefit I’ve turned it off here
)
Any help, suggestions or critical views are welcome!
Thanks in advance!
Nice tune! The groove between the kick and bass was tight and rock solid. That said, I might mix up the pattern every now and then…maybe as a fill for the end of a 16 bar segment.
The clipped vocals definitely work as is. Although they’re not really the centerpiece, they fit the vibe of the track.
Great job. Really enjoyed.
Thanks Gabriel for the feedback.
Indeed maybe some more variation here and there could keep it more interesting. I’ve had some tries changing the bassline, but if I fool around with it it seems to clogg up the low end and since I would like to keep it as tight as possible I think I’m gonna have a look at some hats or snares or something. I don’t think sweeps are a good idea 'cause it wouldn’t suite the track.
Something I’ve been looking around for is some sound effect like in that Blawan-song “Getting me down”. Don’t know how to call it, sounds like glass bottles or something…
Anyway… food for thought! Ideas welcome ;)
really solid track mate I liked it a lot.
Here are some things you might want to try
- Find a couple of perc sounds that you only want to hear once every 8 or 16 bars. Put them in with a long reverb tail (s/c it to the kick if it gets messy) or a beat repeat or delay effect on them. There’s a growl sound you use every 2 bars after the second break that works very well. Something like that is what I’m suggesting - an unusual sound that gets used sporadically.
- Try to put small perc fills in every 4 or 8 bars.
- The vocal ‘da’ ‘da’ sound that you use as part of the groove could do with messing with every so often - big verb on one of them then drop the following ones for a bar to give the verb’ed one room to breathe. Or again a simple delay every so often.
You could even use them as a build if you beat repeat or have them hitting with more regularity - 1/4, 1/8th, 1/16th, 1/32nd notes. Maybe experiment pitching them up an octave or two at the end to help the build.
Thanks! Great feedback and ideas enough to keep me busy for the night!
Really appreciated!

Great tune! #1 on RA’s 2011 list…but I still listen to it all the time
Yep, that’s the one!
The sound I’m talking about is just past 1:00, right after the first kick. I don’t know what it is, I thought maybe some glass bottles, or such a wooden dream-catcher-wind-toy-thingy that some people have hanging on their porch… Or might there be a way of making it with woodblocks (which might make it complicated)

I bet you could get something similar with a woodblock sample (or equivalent). Maybe try a little pitch envelope modulation and program triplets (or off grid) at the end of a bar. Could also do a reverb w/some pre-delay and put another hit on beat 1…that way you’d get a nice tail that would lead back into the triplets but also wouldn’t wash them out.
Also, if you wanted to go a different route, I really like FXpansion’s Tremor drum synth for making little pings & strikes. It has an additive oscillator that facilitates that kind of programming nicely.
I am not too experienced to give you advice , yet, only from the djing point of view, it is a great tune and work.
