Sound Advice

Hi guys,

Not sure if this fits in the right category or not but I’m lookin to buy some KRK RP5 speakers and am not sure how they would connect. I have an Audigy Soundblaster Platinum Pro 2 (bit of a mouthful) soundcard and it has an external breakout box? But I’ve been told that RCA connections provide poor sound quality when recording and so not sure if I need to buy a new soundcard or if it will fit on that one.

I’ve tried searching for instructions on connecting the speakers but can’t find what I’m looking for so any advice you have would be appreciated.

Its not totally ideal but will sound fine. I would defo look at getting a soundcard soon too.

The focusrite ones are top notch.

RCA doesn’t provide poor sound quality. The reason people think that is because they are unbalanced and this can lead to interference, but that doesn’t mean it will lead to interference. with short cable runs and keeping audio cables at right angles to power cables there shouldn’t be a problem.

That said I have seen a lot of posts about the KRK monitors (which people seem to really like) and hum with non-balanced cables so there may be that these monitors are susceptible:

My advice is connect your monitors to your Soundblaster breakout box by RCA and save up for a mondern audio Interface as Phil said.

Thanks for the advice guys, I’ll look into getting a new soundcard in the near future then.
