hey guys
long time no see! i’m thinking of setting up a soundcloud page as nearly everyone has one these days.
one thing that crossed my mind is, surely if you have the full track on there people can kinda rip it from the site if they change the input channels and record it in, say soundforge, audacity etc?
just came to mind anyway, your thoughts on this are appreciated! maybe it’s just one of those modern day things no one can avoid huh?
mm
yeah…unavoidable…
soundcloud auto degrades to 128mp3 so if anyone was to record it in that way it would sound even lower grade and they’d probably be in for a good shock dropping it in a club on a big system.
It’s unavoidable mate as you say, tho there is a few methods you can use to reduce your worry.
When your track is completed, either use a sound converter, there are some free ones about like Switch, save the file at a low kbps, say 96 that way quality is low.
If you don’t want to do that, you could always record a 2 or 3 minute sample from it, taking in the main bits or whatever, you can use Soundforge to do that, and have it fade in at the start and fade out at the end for better listening.
Or a third method, if you aren’t signed to a label or don’t know how to and are happy to have people hear your early works, leave the download tab open, so at least you can see people downloading instead of wondering are you getting ripped off.
I for now am using the last method there, because I’m only in the early days, and don’t expect signings or anything like that, plus I don’t know how to get that done!
Best of luck with whatever you decide mate.
