Sounding like Hardwell

Hi, i was wondering how Hardwell does his drums, bass and hi hats and stuff if you could help with a tutorial or guidance that would be sound i have tried everything and nearly did it hope someone who knows how to get that sound will reply.

Can you post a youtube of some examples please.

I would love a tutorial on this as well.

Not as good as a comprehensive tutorial so take this for what its worth…



It Definitely has a progressive vibe to it, I feel like the prog house tutorial would get you going in the right direction for this style.



A few notable differences with tutorial that immediately come to mind:


  1. Instead of the syncopated 16th note bassline he opts for a more subtle sine like subby bass that is held and sidechained when the main riff isn’t being played (during the main another bass is simply following the chords).


  2. To compensate for the above he has a much heavier kick and it sounds like he prioritized getting the kick and snares/claps working well together (very important when your trying to achievement this style of sound). Sounds like he may have some reverb from the clap/snare reversed into some of the hits as well.



    I think the best way to approach a track like this would be to nail down the Kick / snares and claps and that held bass (this probably applies to most dance music). Then start adding syncopated rhythms with percussion and stabs a la progressive house tutorial.
