Spectrum Analyser

I have only just started watching the prog house tutorial and it struck e that SA don’t use the spectrum Analyser - I find it essential for placing sounds, just wonder if you other folks use it or am I the only one in the village?

I only use it when i place sounds in the same frequency range and they could clash or they are both playing a somewhat melodic part.

I use it now more than before since i have issues with the acoustics of my room . but if i have a proper set up i probably wouldn’t use it that much .

what i think that when SA works in tutorials they have a great set up or a treated Room . Probably might be one of the reason that they dont use Freq Analyzers. sometimes there is no need to use monitoring plug ins when u have a proper set up .because ur hearing can be more accurate than a plug in .IMO

I probably use it just out of habit

only use it to find out the key of my kicks

Really need to check that out.

I use it for finding out the key of things mainly

Me too

O M G

Just checked it out.

Thanks so much for letting me know Guys. Fantastic.

Really cool. Anyone know of any 3rd party EQ’s that do the same? Just thinking how handy it would be for Logic. Will have a Google around in the meantime.

The pathetically boring idea of renaming my Kicks to include Note info has suddenly become a possibility

Slender - Thanks a million Man.

Voxengo Span - [url]Free Spectrum Analyzer Plugin, FFT, Real-Time [VST, AU, AAX] - SPAN - Voxengo

I would have easily paid 100 quid for that. Excellent for free!!

Love the way you can zoom into it & hold the Peaks.

I promise to quote all your posts with “LOL” & “I agree” from now on!! Hahaha!

Now, if only there were other people at home who would get excited about this stuff. Ah Well!

Seriously Mate - Cannot thank you enough. Going to be using that EVERY DAY!!

Its got a brand new home on my master strip - Constantly open now on my 2nd Monitor.

Seriously Sweet

Hope it likes being worked hard!

whats the Spec Ana your all using to show the note/key of the kick?

Hadn’t really thought about using a spectrum analyzer in this way before. In fact, hadn’t really used it. Didn’t realise that it shows the note on the peak too. So, good for tuning bass and kick together.

I was about to post that all the Logic EQ’s have built in spectrum analysers and you can go to a high resolution. To find out the key just convert the frequency to the key.

Then I actually installed Span and compared and wow it is so much better and plus it tells you the frequency and note right off the bat. Loving the hold option also.

Slender - Great call dude! Thanks.

Your welcome rcorbo

I like the multi-channel analysis too - plus it seems easy on the cpu too

thats a cool bit of kit once you put it on hi res. :D  nice find. been trying to find a piece of sw to get my kick key accurately for ages.

Voxengo Span = Fkn Legend!

i’ve never used this for anything before tbh i never actually knew what it did

i just got the ableton manual out after reading this thread and it does not really say a right lot how do you use this for finding out the key of your kicks???
