I have no clue how to produce strings. Not a single idea. I’ve just watched the video below, which helped me understand them a lot more. BIT I’d really like to see a Phil or Bry do a full tut on here. It’s the midi arrangement I don’t get.

That’s a nice, big topic. What in particular don’t you understand about the arrangement? You may want to look at resources regarding orchestration, something like this book.
Also, in case you’re not aware, there’s a group buy for some really nice orchestral libraries. The Pop-Rock strings collection would be pretty good for what you’re talking about here, and that will get down to $62 (from $250) soon.

I’ll have a look at the book but I’m not really interested in a new library pack. What I need more is a proper understanding of the use of strings within dance music, particularly the different types of composition that the guy in the video I linked to was talking about - all from a midi perspective in a DAW (preferably Ableton but I don’t really mind which DAW)
