OK, so I just began recording live instruments for the first time today in my studio. However, I am getting some kind of upper mid-range hum. What could be the cause of this? I’m using an Onyx Blackjack interface with Sterling Audio mics.
I already tried turning off the other computers in here, but it didn’t change the issue.
Could be ground loop. Experiment with having different parts of you studio on and off (power) and with different combination of things plugged in, so like interface speakers/amp computer PSU etc. In my last house I would get ground loop when my house mates laptop was plugged in. Year before that I couldn’t have my laptop power cord and my interface connected to my laptop at the same time very frustrating!
Should I asked fist is the hum constantly there or only when you listen back to the audio, ie in the recording!?
Unfortunately, I discovered that it’s constantly there. I’m now noticing it in my monitors. I heard this a long time ago, but it disappeared for a while, or at least I didn’t notice it until I started recording audio in here recently.
Does sound like ground loop too me, with the sound itself is it really loud? Have you also tried turning things off and switching wall plugs like I suggested?
