when you’ve spend a load of time making the parts but the structures just not working, i sometimes find the best thing to do is as follows.

SAVE AS > SWITCH OFF MACHINE > MAKE COFFEE > SWITCH ON 360/PS3 > PLAY FOR MANY HOURS > FORGET ABOUT WHAT WAS FRUSTRATING YOU WITH THE TRACK > GO FOR A WALK > COME BACK WITH FRESH EARS.

seriously though doing something none music based was the best advise i’ve ever been given

Yeah I’d agree with the above when ever you’re having a mental block, it really is amazing how fresh your track sounds after a break.

Anyways from what I gathered in your post, that isn’t what you were asking. Structure can be layed out in so many different ways. I, like you, struggle/d on structure a lot, not so much now, but i still get it, i find the best way to get around this is to listen to a track which might be on a similar sound to what you’re producting, or even one that you like the structure off and just follow it’s format.

Try loading up the tune into your DAW (helps if the tune in question is in the same BPM as the one you’re producing), then lay it up into your arrangement window. Just toggle the mute/solo buttons when you need too.

Works for me.

don’t know with that stuff roben, sure it does work, but for me if the ideas not coming out on its own then its never gonna sound natural and flowing. so going for a break and coming back is the best inspiration you can get sometimes.

i guess its different strokes for different folks. a friend of mine swears by making a 64 bar loop of what he’s made and using tracktor to have a mix, mixing it with other tracks and writing down ideas for builds and drops

hey guys cheers for ur thoughts im on it now listening back to other tracks and tryin to understand the structure. thats wat my mate wonk said aswell. for some reason i find that the hardest putting all the ideas together.

good to know thier are people too help on here cheers

wonks productions are sooooo good

I am just a novice to production, but I tend to make tunes that are very ‘tracky’ that just sort of groove along.

if you’re making vocal house or trance music, you might want to read up on traditional song structure, like changing the key in the bridge, that sort of thing… but for straight up techno and tech-house the progression is very loose and free form

If ur struggling with the arrangement, u should watch the electro cubase tutorial that was just recently added.

U’ll want part 27 onwards…

i agree, fresh ears is a BIG help.

you could play me, but you’d just get more frustrated as i’d win

are you on 360 or ps3 bry??

just drag a song that you like alot and try to emulate it. Put it on an 8 bar loop and loop it and listen over and over again. Then move 4 bars at a time and see how the track progresses.
