Sub

due to the frequencies some of my sub bass is a lot more exagerated due to the notes, apart from altering the volume on individual notes does anyone have any other tips for dealing with this uuuuumpphhh problem

EQ?

might be the environment youre listening to the track in. itll make some notes sound louder than others

are u using a sampler or a synth . if you using a sampler or a synth u probably might need to adjust the Key filter and the Velocity Knobs to desires results . also EQ might be the way

GL

thanks for the responses

i’m doing it from my synth

i admit it does vary on listening environments but as some notes have dramatic impact e.g. G comapred to others

eq is on already,  perhaps its cutting some frequencies

can you explain the key filter business? i got it on my synth but it’s a feature ive just never go round to exploring

u could try a free vst called basslane which can help with this kinda thing… google it!

Thanks for the tip gofunk! I’m gonna try this

Every room, box, etc has it’s resonance frequency, this is how bass reflex works on speakers, that frequency is going to be more pronounced than others, check it with tone generator, scan fq from the bottom up. Acoustic treatment is the only real solution, but you can try and get bottom end right on headphones instead

I think this is the reason. I would grab some bass traps. Acoustic treatment is something every studio should have anyways.

yeah you are right, i can only have my room setup in one way (not very good for monitoring sadly), anyone know of some good resources for positioning and know of any cheap but cheerful bass traps?

that will get you started:
