Subtractive Synthesis

Hi guys, hope you are all well?

Okay, so I’ve recently finished another track and would like it if you could take a listen and give me your opinions as before!

I say finished, but it needs mastering to bring it up in volume, which I have no clue on at the moment. I’ve attempted to add a few effects, mainly panning, compression and I’ve even dabbled in a spot of reverb too, but that’s still a mountain for me to climb.:hehe:

Anyway, I’ll stop rabbiting on and let you guys judge it for yourself.

Once again, thanks for listening and giving me your feedback, it’s helping me get a better grasp on what I’m doin right and wrong and I’ll always try and return the favour, although my technical knowledge of what it should sound like is pretty minimal.

In regards to the track one thing I found weird was definately the melody. I think your not keeping in the scale, some of the sounds sound a bit off and disonant, more so the bouncy weird synth and the melody clash and contrast in a negative way. Really sounds at times as though its a DJ mixing two tracks at the wrong time…

In regards to the bass and kick the mixdown definately feels weak. I am no genius when it comes to mixing the kick my kicks are wickedly weak but I think the sub and the kick clash significantly. More sidechaining would help, and maybe bringing the subs levels down just a tiny bit.

For the breakdowns I loved the lead ins to the breakdown, the increased distortion followed by delaying and reverberating the sound was nice. HOWEVER, the moment that pad/bass kicks in is tooooooo abrupt, for a breakdown it needs to slowly sweep in with a volume rise or use something to bring it in more subtle…

I actually really like the atmosphere and the feel the track gives me, nice and chilled. Reminds me a teeny bit of ekko’s stuff with that bouncy synth and its evident I like his stuff!

Didnt like the melody section one bit but thats just me; it just felt like it was a second track and had nothing to do with the rest of it.

Anyways, I hope you dont find me too harsh and hopefully this will help.

In regards to advice I think you really need to consider flow a bit better; what I mean by that is listen to the bits you have and make sure nothing jumps out unless it is an intended jump (IE the drop in a track is always intended but they still flow well!).

Hi Mistro, thanks for taking the time to listen to it and give such detailed feedback.

Yeah I hear what you’re saying about the melody and synth. I was trying to go for something that would contrast against each other, although I didnt want it to be in a negative way!

As for the mixdown, I really haven’t got a clue what I’m doing in that field. :crying: I’ll certainly take another look at the kick and sub though and try to tame the beast. I’m glad you like the feel of the track though and will defo look at ways to make it flow better.

Thanks again for your feedback!

I like the melody, esp the plucks when you first introduced them in the beggining. The bass notes don’t seem to blend in with the synths though. The FX inserts are introduced kinda harsh, maybe automate levels a bit? But overall its a solid tune, I liked the melody and the plucks. Mistro offered some good solid feedback.

Thanks for the feedback dude! I’m gonna take a look at it later, tweak some of the levels and take a look at those pesky bass notes!
