Suitable Laptop for Producing?

Hey.  Been saving a while now and it’s time to finally buy a laptop for music production.  Only thing is, I’m not too sure on which 1 to buy?

It would be much appreciated if any of you guys could give any recommendations?

I Don’t really want to pay anymore than £1500…so whatever would be suitable for that price…Thanks!

Holy Smokes Bro!!!

I would go with a Mac. Others say PC, but I would at least look into it. For the money, you can get a 15" MacBook Pro, almost all the way decked out, and you can get some plugins with the money left over.

Welcome to the forums BTW

welcome to the forum and mac all the way every day

I would go for a macbook but only on the basis it’s less likely to crash.

Do you have a Mac? Thats not the only reason to get Apple products brotha!

thanks! looks like i will be looking into a mac then!

I’m also baffled on which software to purchase…I have been looking into Ableton & Cubase.  Are any better than others or is it just down to personal preference?

Trance is my Genre.

Ableton, Cubase, Logic are the main players. There is also Fruity Loops (NO!), Sonar, and Pro Tools. I just use Ableton but you should try out what you like first. Everyone has different preferences.

Apple have launched a 27" iMac with 4GB RAM and a Quad Core CPU. I’d look into that before buying a Mac Book Pro.

It still doesn’t make you mobile. That would suck going to a gig carrying a 27" iMac!

I think I’d be ok

yeah, but in all honesty, thats probably only a 20" monitor at most! Those 27" iMacs are monsters!

get your self ableton and logic bro they are a dream combo

Can I ask how you transfer your tracks from ableton to logic jon? The two would be a dream solution if there was a easy/fast way to transfer tracks into logic from ableton without bouncing everything to audio.

There is no fast way. You can not rewire into Logic or out of Logic. You have to bounce each channel and import the stems. Too much work for me unless you’re doing a final mixdown.

the best way is to bounce the audio, but usually at this point the track is almost finished so there is no need for the speed that most people crave during the early stages
