Hey guys,br
I’m finally making the switch from PC to MAC after many years and was after some advice. br
br
Do I really need the latest whizz bang i7 for music production? Money’s a little tight right now and I’m tossing up options. br
br
Have you noticed much of a difference working with an i5? br
br
Also RAM wise, do you think 8 GB or 16 GB? br
br
I used to work on a i7 pc with 16gb of RAM but I think it might have been a bit of overkill.br
br
I use a lot of Ableton native FX with the occasional VST (prefer to render to audio even when I do)br
br
Do you reckon I could get away with an i5?br
Cheers!
Well just as an idea, I’m running a 2009 21" iMac (3.06ghz Core 2 duo) with 12GB which seems to deal with Yosemite and Ableton just fine.br
br
Sound breaks up occasionally, usually after a full day of producing but a reboot usually solves that. I’ve always found Ableton great on resources, usually only having problems with external synths. I’ll probably run 2/3 instances of Massive, M1 and the T:Racks (along with all the usual, low-cpu/memory fx) and I rarely run into issues.br
br
I’d say go for the most RAM you can realistically afford but generally whichever you get it should run like a dream anyway!br
br
Unless anyone else has any issues to report?
nice thing about apple (at least here in the states) is you can return within 14-days no questions asked. i have a 2011 mbp and have issues (prob due to slow hard drive and 4gb memory). no issues on my 2009 mac pro. using ableton and logic x.
