Sylenth by Lennardigital

[quote]bryan spence (6/2/2009)[hr]hi guys

what are you’s all using just out of interest?

anyone using abletons Operator?

whats the most commonly used synth between the lot of you. we picked sylenth because we thought it was generally quite cheap compared to other synths out there on the market.

hopefully we can get something sorted though for you

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but I bought Sylenth1, partially due to these tutorials, and have been using it regularly. Out of all the synths available out there, Sylenth is not very expensive, and sounds excellent. I would hate to see the tutorials move away from Sylenth.

Perhaps you could provide the sampled sounds from Sylenth separately in each tutorial, so the people who don’t own it could load it up in Simpler?

Also, I do own and use Operator a bit too. I’d love to see some use of that =) Been looking to get into the Rob Papen synths, which are quite popular too.

I have Operator but i’ve never used it lol.

I’ve been using Native Instruments Massive for most part while trying to follow the tutorials. I have the Ableton Suite and will try out Operator soon. I try to use only 3 go-to synths while working to keep it simple. Make learning and programming easier. So the Sylenth1 would be a nice synth to add with Massive and Operator.

I suggest to limit the tutorials to using only 2 or more synths exclusively to make sure everybody can follow it.

Albino 3 and operator for me .

I like to program my own kicks (more control)for this i use operator

and bass is albino 3:)

I think Sylenth for something simple, quick, and easy. I really want to learn Blue and Albino and use those three as my go to synths of choice. Blue does pretty much everything, including FM synthesis and some crazy pulse modulation as well.

I don’t think you should be doing tuts with other Synths, Sylenth1 looks awesome! But then there are FREE synths like Synth1?

Synth1 by Daichi Laboratory (Ichiro Toda) - Synth (Analogue / Subtractive) Plugin VST Audio Unit

I agree. I know it must be difficult to construct tutorials like this only using one particular VST/Audio Unit plug-in, because everyone will naturally have their own favourite. The problem is simply the fact that music software is by no stretch of the imagination cheap. Even the ‘cheaper’ synths like Sylenth are still well over £100! After investing in a full DAW like Ableton, Reason, Logic, Cubase etc. this soon mounts up. To have tutorials which use on top of this a range of external synths would of course be very informative, but to follow them would certainly be out of my price range.

I believe the best solution all round is to use one particular synth (such as Sylenth) in the tutorials to teach subtractor synth principles, and offer this at a discounted price for Sonic members. That way, people who have their own personal favourite external synth can then try to apply the theory learnt on one synth to another. What does everyone think?

some synths are very cheap and still great take V-station for example you can pick it up for around £39 and imo is still one of the phattest sounding softsynths if you spend some time with it.

£39 is nothing when you think about it just miss out on one friday down the pub.

same with most softsynths though, it would only take a few sacrifices to be able to afford one. if your not prepared to make those small sacrifices then i guess you’re really not into your music as much as you think you are.

personally i think sylenth is the most flexible and nice sounding synth for the money

THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A DIG AT ANYONE

Hmmm…I agree with you up to a point. I would, however, have to take issue with the analogy that someone’s ability to afford a whole range of soft synths somehow reflects how much they are into their music. I would say instead that those of us with very little money to spare who nonetheless save up for even one package like Ableton actually suggests a great deal of determination. My argument here is that keeping the tutorials down to a minimum number of synths will really help everyone to learn together.

sorry what i wrote was actually not aimed at someone being able to afford a whole range of synth just simply one synth.

i do agree with you that not many people can afford to buy every bit of software that comes out, but who needs to. i am sure with a bit of practice i could possibly duplicate all of the sounds produced in the tutorials on just about any synth i have.

my only advice to people is that if there is one synth to save up for this year make it sylenth.

if anyone is interested then i will post up a complete free studio & plug-ins (not illegal)

Wow - cheers! A list of free synths would be great! I see your point now with Sylenth, and agree completely. It would be great if some kind of discount could arranged, however, either through a group buy or via membership here. Fingers crossed.

This is an unbelievable forum topic you’ve started - this must have taken up a hell of a lot of your time - thanks! This will keep me busy for weeks…

Hello everyone,

Well, these things have a habit of fizzling to nothing if you let them, so I thought I would post my message I sent to Lennardigital this evening to keep the fires burning (as it were):

‘Hello again,

I was wondering if there had been any developments in regards a discounted price for Sonic Academy users who would like to buy Sylenth. If you take a look at the forum thread here, you will see this has been an extremely popular idea, and there are a great many members who are waiting to hear any news on this (myself included of course!)

If this would not be possible through Sonic Academy directly, might there be another way forum members could form their own ‘group buy’? If so, how might we go about this?

I and the many others in the forum look forward to your response with great anticipation.

Yours faithfully,

Ged’

I’ll post any reply up here for your perusal. Fingers crossed… :Whistling:

Good on you Ged! I was beginning to wonder what was the outcome of this group discount. I was under the assumption Lennar was speaking to the powers that be at S.A. about making this happen. I appreciate it could take some time but an update would be nice.

I hope something eventually comes out of this…preferably sooner…than later !!!

No problem - I’m hoping that if the makers of Sylenth see there is a genuine demand for their synth specifically from Sonic Academy users, both S.A. and Lennerdigital should be able to negotiate something together. It makes good business sense anyway - there is obviously a demand and hopefully they will recognise this.

If not, of course, I’m hoping there might still be the option of a private group buy (details of which of course I would post up here if I heard anything). But it seems to me like Sonic Academy itself would benefit from this kind of a deal. Wouldn’t it be an incentive to join S.A. if you knew your subscription fee included discounted software? And likewise, the tutorials are a perfect platform from which to promote it!

Do you know what? I should have a career in marketing…

its a no lose situation as far as i can see SA would get more subscribers and sylenth would shift more units plus get advertised a lot with it being in almost every video.

surly now more than anytime the plug-in creators are feeling the pinch as well

I agree completely - fingers crossed they are able to come to some sort of an agreement.

i have been waiting on an email from lennard about a deal… just waiting on confirmation then ill start taking names.

Great stuff! Thanks Phil - this is excellent news!
