I’ve been struggling for a while to get sylenth to give me a nice glissando/legato bass sound. I’ve tried toggling the portamento knob et al (bottom right of the GUI) to no avail.
Anyone else achieved a nice setting for this type of thing?
Also, and perhaps a little more challenging, is it possible to have a polyphonic portamento - i.e. a whole chord that glides between notes?
To be honest I’ve never thought the portamento on Sylenth is ‘that’ good. It’s ok but it won’t replicate that live bass sound you’re after as well as … a live bass lol.
May possibly be best to try samples, or perhaps put an ad in Gumtree for someone who can play the part your after live for you?
Just food for thought.
I’m wanting to replicate a 70’s style funk bass actually, I did mess around with Sylenth and a couple of other plug ins but just couldn’t get it sounding right. Have decided it will probs work out better just to live record.
I actually play bass - do you have a score of what you’re after?
I don’t have my bass rig setup to record at the moment but when I get around to it I could play what ever your after.
The sound I’m after I guess is akin to the bass from Benessi’s Satisfaction from a few years ago. Should also mention that I am able to get almost the right sound out of Nvtn BassStation - but it’s not as harmonically rich as what can be produced using Sylenth.

Yeah actually I do have exactly what I want playing through bass, if i sent you the sound do you think you could (possibly) record it in the BPM i’m after?

If you really wanted the benassi satisfaction sound… Nexus has the exact preset in it.

You could use that to make it easy…[/quote]
Is nexus what they used?
I think FM did a video of the benassi boys and they did hit on their trademark bass sound, was ages ago i seen it now though so can’t remember if they shown us what plug in they used lol.

I play bass too. Even if you record the audio from a bass guitar you need something to make it sound the way you want it… for instance the slap bass samples you hear in a justice track like electric feel or in the How to Make French House Tutorial on SA.
Its more about the tone/amp feel you are looking for.
I just got guitar rig and have been playing a lot with that. You can obtain the sound that way for sure using guitar rig recording a bass guitar.
Otherwise depending on your amp/input/FX settings when you record the bass it wont be what you are looking for.

I dont think they USED nexus… but there is literally an EXACT preset in Nexus 2.
Load it up, its under sequences. Hit a key on your keyboard and you have satisfaction.
The satisfaction sound is a simple saw sound to my ears and what give it the benassi sound is the compression settings.
the future music dvd of benni in the studio with his cousin, they showed the preset used from reaktor but put their hands over the screen when he clicks on the channel strip in logic.

Can we describe the compression type of settings? Ive been messing around with compression and other things but the sound comes out the same just louder (which I thought was the point of compression) so if its changing the sound im confused whats going on.
