Hey guys, im trying to learn how to make some deep house tunes using the tutorial video for ableton, and in the video the guy uses a vst plug in - syenth1. Now im new to ableton and to music software in general, so what exactly is a plug in? And how do i set it up? ( although i dont think i have any to set up yet ) Im thinking of buying the sylenth1 software cos it looks way easier to use than the synthesizers in ableton ( maybe im wrong ) will it work on ableton suite 8? Running on windows 7?
Sorry for being such and novice guys but everyones gotta start somewhere right!

buy sylenth 1!! its a powerful synth that’s easy to use once you get used to it.
You’ll love Sylenth (at least eventually when you get your head around synths), it’s cheap yet powerful and doesn’t use up loads of CPU.
A ‘plug in’ is basically software that you’re ‘attaching’ to your DAW (in a sense), whenever you instal software plug ins such as synths, effects, etc they install into a folder (you’ll probs have to set this up which folder).
Then in your Ableton settings you select the folder where your plug ins (also known as VSTs) are installed.
My folder is called ‘VST’ and i’ve left it inside my Ableton Live Suite 8 folder in my program files, however that’s just my preference, it’s up to you where you instal yours.
However note that Ableton has it’s own ‘plug ins’ so try not to let that confuse you too much, you won’t need to worry about where they’re installed as they’ll be arranged already in your DAW, the plug ins that come with Ableton are awesome!
Look any issues when it comes to it, feel free to ask or PM me, i’m usually always on the forum.
