Yea I didnt even know, these guys had a movie lol…
Where can I watch it?
http://vimeo.com/18207361 Found it on Vimeo. There aren’t any subtitles though, so some parts might be a bit hard to understand for those who don’t understand swedish.
You can rent it for free on voddler.com with subtitles also, but I think their site only works for people in scandinavia, at least it used to. But it’s worth giving it a shot
One thing that did surprise me was their wealth. Especially angello. Private lear jet and a collection of ferraris…
I know some of the more well known DJ’s here in holland get like 1000-2000 euros for like 90mins and these are DJ.s that someone outside of Holland will never hav heard of. So im guessing people like the SHM that are known all around the world will be making alot more…
45 minutes? Thats it?
i dont know how it is now, but back in the early 2000’s the biggest dj’s would get up to 40k(us dollars) for a 2hr set . i dont know if they make more or less now though

There was an interview in one of the dj magazines (last year i think) when one of the top 100 dj’s (could have been tiesto) claimed to be getting around £10500 for every record that he mixed… Thats not for each set, EACH RECORD earning something like £75,000 for a 2 hour set.
Some of the Top FM Radio Dj’s in the uk are earning over £1 Million a year, which considering most of these play the same set over and over again talking about the same crap is ridiculous.
Steve Angello has been writing music, remixing, dj-ing and selling tracks for years as well as all the other stuff he does.
These guys would be rich no matter what they did because they treat everything they do as business and not hobbies. Take the track he made for instance from a set of samples right out of the vengeance pack, It sounded good so he sold it with out getting all up in the air about it being “cool” or not, were as those people who are bothered about it sounding original of fresh and getting to envolved in the technical side of **** will probably never make money.
I’ve come to realize that people who care about samples and them being used are ****ty at making music to begin with.
Its not about the sounds, its how you use them.
Very true jon. +1
well Jon i dont totaly agree with you on the basis that i think the track One by swedish house mafia was pretty damn original…

In what way was it original ?
the bassline made from a kick thing…
Nah thats been done before mate, producers have been looping up sounds and making others sounds for years and is probably one of the most early forms of sample manipulation, the fact that they ended using a kick was just luck more than judgement. they’ve said so themselves in future music, they say the idea came when they were playing with looping different sounds.
They sound they ended up with was that of almost a SAW sound but the creative progress along the way was what helped with the ideas. If they just loaded a SAW in their synth they may not have ever came up with the same track.
The reason the track was so huge was because all three guys are good at marketing themselves and have good business sense, they built a following for themselves as individual artists and made their fans aware that they were also part of a group “SHM” and the following of 3 then becomes track sales for one.
When watching the film this actually came to mind… I thought why are THEY so much bigger than their individual careers… Their music isnt that different than their solo stuff so why…
Theyve become a “brand” that people can buy into. Like coca cola or macdonalds.
Clever.
Still whatever theyve done and however theyve done it seems creative to me as there arent alot of other people that have done the same thing…

There just a money making machine! That’s it
Although there stuff is good I wouldn’t say it’s anything special
