My girlfriends laptop (windows xp) won’t ever load facebook, i’m on the same internet connection with a different computer and the website loads fine.
After google search I’ve tried various fixes, all to no success.
I’ve removed the firewall, antivirus, windows firewall, i’ve changed explorer from IE to Firefox, i’ve flushed the DNS, i’ve ran a virus check (all clean).
I’ve tried typing “netsh winsock reset catalog” in cmd and restarting comp.
Tried restarting router.
Tried CCleaner, clearing cache / cookies.
Tried checking the hosts file c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and the only thing in there is 127.0.0.1 localhost.
I also made sure that in tools / options / advanced / network tab settings that it was selected as 'no proxy.
I have tried pinging facebook.com and the packets return really slow compaired to when I ping other websites.
After hours of research it seems that everyone else gets their resolve and i’ve tried all their fixes but nothing seems to work.
It all seems to have happened since moving back to O2 Broadband, we were with them originally then moved to talk talk, they were aweful so moved back to O2 but now there is this issue.
I was thinking of calling O2 tech but facebook works fine on my computer and on the Mac in the other room, it’s just her laptop that has the issue.
Brain fried and i’m tired now, anyone got any other ideas?

Anyways i tried adding an ‘s’ after ‘http’ and that seems to work, madness.

Was gonna say Firefox instead of Internet Explorer maybe? I have to use it for some sites, cos IE wont load 'em. But you’ve already done that Mate.
Has she the most up to date version of Internet Explorer?
Microsoft has stopped updates etc… for XP.
So, the computer might not get the automatic updates with the yellow shield anymore.
The Internet Provider change might have something to do with it. But I dont know about XP anymore. Used it for years & liked it. But when MS stopped doing updates, I switched to Windows 7. Its really good. More like OSX

I did that.
Anyways i’ve found a resolve (kinda).
By adding ‘s’ after http, the website now loads.

I know what this is! A “friend” of mine had the same problem when he was watching to much gay porn! Nearly went blind too but managed to save his sight by watching normal porn

Another thing you could check in your system…
Facebook is loaded with Java & Javascript. Make sure that java & javascript are not turned off in internet options or your firewall/internet security. this would do it.
Could be a “non-trusted” site somehow as well. check to make sure its not being blocked.
